I'm Fat! And I kinda like it!

So I'm feeling good in my skin today. I just recieved in the mail today Marilyn Wann's book FAT!SO? from Amazon, and in it are wonderful photos and pictures of fat bodies. I looked and I grinned and I laughed. I've never seen so many bodies that look like mine in one book. It's amazing! So far I haven't read much of the book, but what I've read has been very inspirational and uplifting. I'm tempted to lend it to my parents along with Lessons from the Fatosphere so they can see how I feel.

Anyway I just felt the need to share how awesome I feel in my skin today. How absolutely wonderful it is to be a fat woman.

Cheers!

"Exercise Your Demons!" And Other Fat Related Stuffs

So today's post is going to be about a few things, most about exercising and clothes...ok I'll admit it's about socks. But first! Let's take those demons out for a walk shall we?

All right seriously though exercise is something that a lot of fat people view as a chore. Why? Because to many of us Fatties it means running, push ups, sit ups, pull ups, weight lifting, and *gasp* god forbid, the gym. Well lets look at what else is exercise. Do you dance? That's exercise. Do you play any kind of sport? That's exercise. Are you involved with a reenactment group? That is definitely exercise. Do you care for small children? That is exercise (why is it that their legs are so much shorter yet they always seem able to outrun their parents?). See just because you don't go running three miles a day or go to the gym and lift weights five times a week does not mean you do not exercise. Just because dancing or playing a sport is fun doesn't make it any less of an exercise. You don't need to join a gym to exercise, mind you there is no reason you can't join a gym if you really really want to, and if you enjoy what that gym has to offer. So find something that gets you moving that you can truly enjoy! Don't just go out and join your local YMCA so you can run on a treadmill to get yourself in shape. Why? Because that may not be fun for you.

No leaving exercise alone since it's kinda like beating a dead horse after I know how many people have written about it. Lets talk socks. Knee socks in particular. have any of you had trouble finding knee socks that actually fit over your larger than 'average' knees? I have! And let me tell you it drives me nuts when I'm wearing a skirt that would look awesome with a spiffy pair of knee socks and I can't find any that fit around my legs without cutting off my circulation. As a result, I have begun my crusade! Yes dear readers I am beginning to learn to knit my own socks. I will have those cute knee socks one day! I will knit them up in the many varied colors my local yarn store has to offer and I will flaunt them wherever I please. Why? Because colorful socks are cool, just like bow ties and fezzes. (If you get that reference kudos to you!)

Post-Christmas

So I haven't said a word about my Christmas at my parents house. So for the most part it went well. They liked my boyfriend, no one got yelled at, and I had a relatively relaxing time. On the other hand, on more than one occasion I wanted to slap my parents and siblings.

My father only a few days into the visit comes up to me and says he hasn't seem me this happy in a long time, and then he said he's only going to say something once, "If only you'd lose your weight." That's a quote folks. Since it was Christmas and I didn't want to make a huge scene in front of the young and impressionable nephews I gritted my teeth and didn't say a word. Now if you notice he said he can see how happy I am, then why the hell do I need to lose weight?! I'm happy, I'm loved, and I have a wonderful boyfriend who thinks I'm gorgeous! Now you tell me why I need to lose weight. Why do I need to change myself when I'm obviously happy as I am? Of course he's a doctor so he'd probably say something about diabetes and heart disease. Okay sure more people who are 'overweight' end up with heart disease and diabetes, but just because I'm fat does not in any way shape or form mean I'm gonna get diabetes or heart disease. Thin people have those too for crying out loud! They are not fat-caused health issues!!

Now my mother and sisters all ride the 'lifestyle changes' wagon. They say they don't believe that dieting works, but isn't lifestyle changes just another diet? In essence with a lifestyle change you are depriving yourself of certain things over a long period of time; ie eating only a bite of cake when you want the whole bloody piece, eating one bowl of soup and then saying your full when in fact you are still hungry and want a second.

My mother and sisters didn't outright say to my face that I needed to make lifestyle changes, but I'm pretty sure that's why we got on the topic. Again I didn't want to make a scene since it was the holidays and that would have made things rather unpleasant. My weight is not fluctuating outside of norms therefore I am doing something right with my eating.

I do not need to make lifestyle changes. I do not need to lose weight. I am happy, I am healthy, I am fat. Get over it.

A New Thought for a New Year

Happy New Year my dear readers! I hope all of you had a wonderful 2010 and are looking forward to an even more wonderful 2011.

Recently I've been playing with the idea of writing a piece of fiction. One that doesn't involve any elements of fantasy at all. One entirely about a fat woman. I can't say it's a memoir, because it's not just about my experiences as a fat woman, it's about all the experiences of fat women. Our ups and downs, our growing underground in the blogsphere and more and more in the regular world (like the kiss in thing they did in New York after the Marie Claire incident, and all the books about us).

Oh and I just have to share with you the work of this artist my boyfriend knows. She as absolutely fabulous, my new favorite artist! http://comethime.deviantart.com/gallery/

Please note some of her drawings are rather risque so do not view in front of small children or at work, otherwise bad reactions may occur from onlookers. We know how squeamish some can be about fat bodies, even drawn ones. ^_^

Anyway leave thoughts, comments, experiences, or whatever for me. ^_^ I love hearing from people!
